Courtesy of Seattle Tattoo Expo: The 10th annual Seattle Tattoo Expo is being held at the Seattle Center’s Northwest Rooms and Courtyard beginning Friday, August 12 through Sunday, August 14. This year’s expo, featuring national and international artists including Jack Rudy, Shawn Barber, Damon Conklin and Cory Norris will provide attendees the opportunity to schedule on-site tattoo appointments. Attendees and tattoo purveyors alike dare to enter the daily tattoo contests. Contest categories include tattoo of the day, small and large black and grey, small and large color, best portrait, best sleeve, best leg, best back, best religious, best pin-up, best traditional and worst tattoo – entrants are required to complete a contest waiver and there is a $10 entry fee.
Seminars discussing tattoo related topics are taking place at the Vera Project. Adrian Dominic will lead a discussion and demonstration on “Adobe Photoshop Techniques for the Tattoo Artist” on Friday, Aug. 12 and Dan Drigenberg will share his knowledge of tattoo machines on Sat., Aug 13. Sunday, Aug. 14’s seminar lineup includes a discussion on drawing heads and hands led by Shawn Barber and an interactive panel discussion about tattoos led by Jeff Gogue and Corry Norris.
Neumos, located at 925 E. Pike St., is hosting the post-expo shows this year, and The Sword (with special guests) is the headlining band on Fri., Aug. 12. High on Fire, Lesbian and Deadkill take the Neumos stage on Sat., Aug. 13; tickets for both shows are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.
Kicking off the weekend’s events is the Tattoo Expo’s 10th Anniversary Art Show featuring works by artists including Shawn Barber, Jeff Gogue, Henry Lewis and Damon Conklin on Thurs., Aug. 11 from 6 p.m. to 12-midnight at Caffe Vita at 1005 E. Pike St. Additionally, the Expo’s 10th Anniversary Party presented by KISW 99.9 FW featuring Loud & Local at Neumos beginning at 8 p.m. is also taking place on Thurs., Aug. 11. Tickets for the Expo’s anniversary party are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
